EHC LifeBuilders Awarded 2009 Liveops Corporate Grant
Grant Will Help Leading Homeless Emergency Services Organization Provide Vocational Training to Communityâ??s Homeless
SANTA CLARA, Calif. (October 21, 2009) –
LiveOps announced today EHC LifeBuilders, a provider of homeless emergency services in California’s Santa Clara County, is the recipient of a LiveOps Foundation grant. The grant will support the development of EHC LifeBuilders’ new Streets Team program. The program involves daily vocational training activities to increase employability, and promote stability and self-sufficiency for 30 homeless community members. EHC LifeBuilders’ goal for the program is to secure employment for 100% of Streets Team graduating members.
“We are extremely impressed by the work EHC LifeBuilders is doing to break the cycle of homelessness through innovative programs like the Streets Team program,” said Maynard Webb, chairman and CEO of LiveOps. “We are committed to reducing the barriers for those in the community that desire to make a better life for themselves by providing resources and services that support them in their quest for meaningful work. With the Streets Team program, members not only receive vocational training and housing but also participate in workshops designed to build skills and confidence they can leverage in finding future work opportunities.”
With the financial crisis and unemployment on the rise in California, requests for shelter and services are at an all time high. Many who request EHC LifeBuilders’ services are homeless for the first time – young veterans, senior citizens, youth aging out of the foster care system, and working families who never dreamed the threat of homelessness could affect them. Unfortunately, due to the economic downturn many historic funding sources for EHC LifeBuilders are unable to provide additional resources to meet this growing demand. In addition, several key government-funding sources have been lost since February 2009. As a result, corporate contributions like the one LiveOps has provided are more important than ever.
“LiveOps’ contribution couldn’t have come at a better time and we are so appreciative of the interest they have taken in supporting our operations,” said Jenny Niklaus, CEO of EHC LifeBuilders. “The LiveOps grant provides an investment in our community’s safety net, directly helping some of the most vulnerable citizens in our community escape the crisis of homelessness and achieve long-term stability.”
Founded 29 years ago, EHC LifeBuilders is one of the leading providers of emergency shelter, rapid rehousing programs, and homeless prevention services for homeless families, adults, and youth in Santa Clara County, California. The agency’s mission is to champion quality of life in the community and stability for people in need by providing housing, hope, and opportunity. EHC LifeBuilders achieves its mission through housing programs and services for homeless and low-income clients. For all of the programs, the goal is simple: provide support and shelter to help people rebuild their lives. Immediate needs assistance coupled with effective self-sufficiency strategies help the agency to create a system of care designed to end homelessness and break the cycle of poverty. Located at eight sites spread throughout the County, EHC LifeBuilders serves over 10,000 people each year.
